Mites??

Sounds "broody" to me, has she been sitting in the nest box alot? Not sure about that "red" part.

To check for mites, check the vent area & under her wings, you'll see tiny critters moving around. Run your hand under the roost, do you feel anything crawling on you? You can also stick your hand/arm in the nest box, do you feel anything? You could also go out at dark with a flashlight, check under the roosts & around the nest box, you'll see mites if they have them.

How old is she?
Has she been laying? If so when was the last time she laid?
What are you feeding?
I think she's broody. She had be

View attachment 1438545 View attachment 1438544 Thank you to everyone that responded! She definitely Is broody. She has been sitting in the nesting box for DAYS and gets very upset when I try to go in the box. Does anyone know a way to brake her while she's in there? My other chicken gets really upset and makes the loudest squawks when she's away from her. Also all of the sudden her comb looks kinda pale and this fluid keeps running out of her vent. Some of it is clear and come of it is a really strange yellow color. Is that because she broody or what could cause that? Sorry if the picture are too gross!
View attachment 1425538 Hey everyone
I have a chicken that's missing a whole bunch of feathers. Does she have mites? Hey belly is missing a lot of feathers and is very flaky and right under her vent she has a weird ball that feels soft, kinda like a balloon, and it's missing feathers as well and is red. Anyone have any idea of what it could be? I can take better pictures if need be. Thanks guys!View attachment 1425534

Wire cage with tray removed, top with 1x2 welded wire at the bottom, no bedding, feed & water, suspend or put on some bricks so air can circulate under her. You can keep the wire cage in the coop with the rest.

However, that fluid (clear & yellowish) is a concern ... Think she may also have had an egg break in her, not good. How old is she? When was the last time she laid an egg?
She's having "reproductive" issues, she may have been Egg Bound but thinking the egg may have broken in her so you want to prevent Egg Peritonitis ... Crush up Calcium Citrate or Carbonate w/D3 see if you can get her to eat or mix with some plain yogurt. Just my thought but best to ask the more experienced ...

Thank you all in advance for advice/help for OP

Truthfully I'm not really sure about a lot of that. I got her from some lady I knew who has about 30 chickens on her farm and she gave her to me because my other chicken got really lonely when her coop mate died, so I'm not really sure how old she is and if shes ever been broody before. Shes been acting pretty normal. I haven't noticed a difference in her other than her sitting up in the nesting box all day and being kinda grumpy. She seems like she has lost some weight though and she seems kinda pale. It's been about a week, maybe two since she has laid but I just thought that maybe since it's so hot out right now shes just slowing down because of the heat. Shes been broody for about the same amount of time too but I just noticed the fluid today.

Are there any eggs in the box with her?? I found a broken egg under a broody the other day. She had it all over her. :sick

I would remove her from the box, put her on the ground and watch her for a few minutes. Wait for her to poop and check the poop. Broody poops are horribly stinky and large amounts. Watch how she walks and acts. Hopefully it’s just normal broody and/or molting behavior.
If I pull a broody from a box, she will usually sit still for a few seconds, all puffed up, but will then shake it off and go get a drink. Then move around and eat a little before trying to return to the box.

If an egg broke inside her, or if she has an egg problem, sadly i believe they go downhill very quickly. I’m not very experienced in that area.
