This is just another way to wash a bird

How do you wash a chicken

Use any container that you like to use that is easy for you
Make sure it has a flat bottom
If you can put a non-slip mat or something in the bottom to stop the chicken from slipping about it will feel more secure, even placing a washcloth in the bottom of the washtub will assist her to stand more securely

Fill the container with warm water – about 5 inches high (12 cm), the water height should only be just above her legs

Sometimes the bird will not object to the water running, and other birds become frightened of this

If she doesn’t object to water running you can use a spray nozzle to help you with the washing and rinsing, it will make the job a lot easier

Use a cup or some other small item to pour water over the back and head
Use baby shampoo, dog or cat shampoo, medicated shampoo, you can also add a couple of drops of glycerine into the rinse water to help give luster

If your washing a white hen, then some laundry blue will help to brighten up the white feathers, but not too much or you will end up with a blue chicken

The bird will fight to get out, but once they are wet they usually settle down
When finished, wrap the bird in towels to dry, then put a hair dryer on low and blow dry or put into a room with a heater and no drafts to dry

They will spend hours preening themselves after this

Never allow them outside until they are completely dry or they will chill, also if they are still damp they are more than likely going to head straight for the dust bath and roll around in it, then they will be caked in mud and need more than just a quick bath to get them clean

After the first time bathing becomes easy for you and your chicken

It can take quite some time for the chicken to completely dry, so check before you allow them outside
