The females won't be barred? Darn! I am not keeping the male chick. I already knew that they were sexlinked, but thanks for the info on the male/female thing! Hmm...

The barring makes them seexlinked. The hen only gives the barring to males chicks, and the rooster gives barring to all chicks. That's why the birds in the first post are all barred, they had a barred rock roo over buff orp hens.

Oh right!! Silly me! I never think through these things, applying what I have learned!

I have a ton of chicks that are growing crossed barred rock roo x cochin hen. They seem to have very little barring.. Mostly dark. Nice feathered feet and very fat lol.
I also have some Delaware hen over Barred rock roo that are very light in barring - almost look like a 100% barred rock boy.
I also have a RSL hen over a barred rock roo that is pure white with a few dark feathers. That one was a surprise

What age should I wait to before sharing pictures here?
preference would be not until they are mature( 20 weeks or so, depending on bird)... yeah, all chicks are cute, but the main point was to show adult birds...

Well, my bantam crosses are 15 weeks. Could I post them??? They are Buff Silkie Cross Buff Brahmaa. Really neat. I'll post pics of them tomorrow if they aren't to young.

20 weeks is just a generalized guess-timation, it really comes down to the bird, and your judgment... I am still waiting for my buff brahma x buff orp pullet to grow up enough... she is right around 20 weeks, but still doesn't look anywhere near mature yet... sort of stuck in that gangly teenage stage

I am really sad to see this thread fizzling out....and I nearly have pictures to share. I think its really interesting to see the mixes. I also think documenting their progression from chick to adult is of value. Perhaps you could reconsider the age restriction?
