mixing ameraucanas?

OK

thanks! that was confusing me. thanks for all the great replies! also, if you were to breed a EE with an ameraucana, and then with those offspring keep breeding back to ameraucanas, would you eventually get a standard bird, but just with mixed lineage?

From my understanding the Lavender (Self BLue) Ameraucana project birds orginated from a Easter Egger with the lavender coloring.

Don't know for sure but I read it on one of the threads on this forum.

Actually the Ams and Araucana's were both developed from the easter egger! Blue egg laying chickens were brought to the US from south america and from there we they were separated and bred for certain traits, like rumpless/tuffed, or beard/muffs, egg color, feather color. So all the people who say your EE is a mixed breed Am are incorrect. Your Am is actually a standardized EE. Sure, the hatcheries have taken it and run with it(like all breeds. Shoot, look at their RIR. and thats where you get the EE's today) but which came first, the chicken or the egg? The ameraucana didn't just, poof, appear here. However. To keep the breed true you should only cross Am. to Am. Adding in any EE, even if you cross back to the Am for many generations, will still be an EE. It'd be really hard to get that standard back. When people have a breed they want to improve on they usually take the breed and start crossing in another breed that has the traits they want. Then over the next x amount of crossings they try and work out the unwanted traits they've brought in. Thats how people get new colors in a breed. By crossing to another, but you have to bre careful, because with an AmxEE you are basically "breeding down". I learned always breed up and try to improve. With any type of animal.

Now let me just say I'm an EE owner. EE's and Olive eggers. Have not owned an ameraucanas yet. I'm actually picking up a blue Am this weekend though. (along with 2 more EE's!)

OK, so because the genes wouldn't be true it would just be a pretty Easter egger, that looks like an ameraucana. do Easter eggers come in solid colors?
Yes.

Why would that be down breeding? In my opinon I've seen better EE than Ameruacana. Don't get me wrong I like the Ameraucana also. I just don't think that that would be consider down breeding.

Here's a question fdor those who insist crossed Ameraucana varieties become EEs. If I cross 2 varieties of Leghorn what do the offspring become if not Leghorns? How about OEGBs? OEGB breeders are forever crossing varieties trying to develope yet more varieties. If I cross a Self Blue OEGB with a Black OEGB [often done to improve featherquality in the Self Blues] are the offspring something other than Black or Self Blue OEGB since they are crossed varieties? How about other breeds eg: Wyandottes, Plymouth Rocks, etc. If I cross varieties of those breeds do they become some other breed as well or does this only apply to Ameraucanas?

I hear you but in Ameraucana if it is not to standard it is a easter egger. Ameraucana seems to be more of a standard than a breed ( you know what I mean) it is a breed but has to conform to the colors patterns and form

As do all the other breeds/varieties. There's nothing different about Ameraucanas. As I said previously there would not be all the different varieties in any breed were it not for people crossing varieties to create them.
BTW: you're wrong- I have no idea what you mean by "more of a standard than a breed".

Only here! In the real world you can show a nonstandard color and get BV as long as there are no DQs. I think some people a remore afr aid of losing sales than anything else. Tom
