ETA - I feed straight grower at all times, to all birds and offer oyster shell (with egg shells mixed in as I accumulate them) for the taking by laying birds.
That has been my experience as well - with the exception of one of my BOs who has always had shells that are thinner, like those I am used to seeing on commercially produced eggs.That's strange. Store bought eggs are way thinner/softer than the eggs my flock produces.
