Saucier,Ms.
has anyone ever raised bobwhite and japanese together and will they crossbreed?

or can/should it even be done?

and farrow too.............yes I am aware just been told japanese and I knew how to spell it at the time.........lol

Well, I raised Bobwhite and Coturnix together with minimal problems. I did raise them since they were very voung (they hatched one week apart). The problem that I did have was the dominant male Bobwhite would peck the coturnix, I had two die from that, but after that it never happened again.

If you are raising them from eggs at the same time, you might be able to integrate them enough so that they might "think" they were the same species, and wouldn't bother each other but that is up to you.

Another note: I kept the bobwhite and the coturnix in the same (decent sized) pen, and they definitely seemed to like to stick with their same species in little groups.

Yep they can interbreed however a breeder friend told me only 1 out of 4 eggs is sucessfully fertile from this hybrid breeding. They seem to be fertile too (the offspring).

However breeding these birds isnt easy. As Andy said they seem to stick to their own species, to get this type of breeding intentionally you'd need to A I or only keep a male bobwhite with a female coturnix (as that's the sucessful cross i guess).

I would be careful housing them together unless you have a vast pen IMO.
