For treatment give the full dose continuously for 7 days, then reduce to 1/2 dose for a further 7 days, then cut it back to 1/4 dose for another 7 days. This gradual reduction in the level of treatment assists birds to develop immunity while maintaining some level of protection. To allow the correct development of immunity some exposure to coccidia is required. In other words let the chickens out in the run.
I haven't let them out in the run as of yet because I DON'T want my three older hens getting sick. We have an enclosed run around both coops. Plus these young ones are sneezing again also. This dealing with sick birds is so tricky.Guess that's what I get for getting chicks that were already fully feathered. Was hoping this would be a good idea as they will start laying in the spring. I should have waited and got baby chicks in the spring who were vaccinated.
Thanks guys! Well this is the 5th day of the corid treatment for the cocci . No more bloody poop its just light brown & runny now. It seems that the couple who weren't showing signs of sickness before treatment now have it. Should I be retreating in a few weeks or anything? I may have to go back to the Duramycin as a couple have started sneezing & my D'Anvers one eye is bothering her. I had to remove the silkie who was shacking her head because she threw up again & when I found her the D'Anver was eating some. Gross!!!
I found the reason for the silkies head shacking her poor crop was so large. I haven't fed her today & gave her a little bit of water with ACV as I read on this sight the she threw up again alot. Then I just read NOT to give ACV. Ugg I don't know what to do & who's advice to follow. Her crop is a bit smaller after all the throwing up & no food but I am not sure where to start now. Anyone dealt with this?
I would do 7 days then reduce to the .006% level, but if you don't see improvement in them by day 7 you might want to think about a sulfa drug instead.
