I received 5 free RIR hens that are six weeks old. I am getting 6 chicks from Meyer's in 2 weeks. I was going to butcher the five at sixteen weeks. Now I don't know about doing that I have room for 12 hens and i have gotten attached to them all ready. My son's gave them names already Fryed-bbq-smoked-baked-and beerbutt. I was just wondering if I kept them seprate until the chicks are about 8 to 10 weeks old if they will all get along.

Hi congrats on the new chicks. Once the new ones feather out fully and grow a bit then if you put them in the coop but keep them apart with temp fence for a week or two they will get picked on less and the older ones will get used to them. Good idea to keep them apart for a few weeks anyways to make sure they are all healthy.
