MJ's little flock

Haha! Of course I believe you, Bob! YOU have a Golden Lace Wyandotte in your flock and would have a much keener eye than I on them. And, yes, I DO think I see the foot feathers now. So what do you think? Golden Laced Cochin? I haven't spent much time (none, really) investigating golden laced varieties, since the Wyandottes are the only ones available through my feed store. (I'm a bit paranoid about diseases and now realize I've kind of cornered myself into chicks from the feed store unless I start all over in a new location someday.
I am thinking cochin but I am not an expert in feathered feet breeds by any means.

It was total curiosity, correct 👍🏻 they were bought from a farm nearby and if they turn out to be roosters she will take them back and replace them. They weren’t ordered as such, just a request for pullets and she’s given me what she thinks are.
I guess not having a vast flock of birds (which I very much wish I had the land and opportunity to do so) I am just excited having 2 newbies and that curiosity got me to post the question in here ☺
I’m sorry to have ruffled any feathers by doing so 🥺 I appreciate all your replies
No one's feathers are ruffled. Don't you worry. We have these discussions all the time. Different perspectives coexist here with no acrimony whatsoever so don't feel like you caused any trouble by asking.

You are permitted to be curious. Having been duped by a cockerel myself, I truly understand why you are asking. The second time I had a boy I knew he would be leaving. So I sucked it up and enjoyed all the time I could have with him. Knowing made an emotional difference which is a real as anything else.

You haven't ruffled any feathers.:love
I'm not very good at this internet communication business.
It's great you've found someone who will take them back if they don't turn out to be what you wanted and good luck with your flock.
Other than that, ignore me. You just happened to land on one of my soap boxes.:D
I do really appreciate you for who you are. :hugs

Tsuki and Deana are having a little moult at the moment.

I came across a white flight feather with an odd looking shaft. I have never seen one like this before. It looks like the end has been dipped in wax.

Tsuki's weird feather with Deana's "normal" feather for comparison.

Has anyone else ever seen a feather like this? Should I be worried?
I have not noticed this but I am heading to my feather collection to confirm.

Well, you know none of us here would ever say that! You’re like me, it’s just we both have a MUCH bigger backyard than most people. And a less cuddly approach, like you’re more likely to find on the Meat Bird forum here.
You don’t fool us with your ‘less cuddly’ talk. Who is it keeps walnuts in their pockets and carries an elderly hen to her preferred breakfast location? Who here regularly has chickens in their house? Who here created a chicken sling and fed strawberries to an ailing chicken?
No judgement. Just saying!

How much of everything is like that though? Observations and Theory is the beginning of science! You just haven’t gone through all the other steps yet to prove or disprove the theory. We are all just grateful and happy to take experienced advice, even if it’s not “scientifically proven”

Thanks for the info Bob! and Goodmorning :frow
Well said Kris. :thumbsup
