MJ's little flock

So @MaryJanet I am using your method for our first vet visit. I am taking two hens so that Sansa has a friend. I have decided to take her bestie Lilly.

I will see if I can get a pain medication for Lilly as her hips have to be bothering her. She no longer even tries to tilt up to poo. Her bum is an undignified mess. 😔

Their appointment is Monday.

I hope the appointment goes well for both hens :hugs

Oh good! I genuinely believe it's a kindness to take a friend. I hope the vet will be able to diagnose Sansa and that it's not a serious problem.

Mary's is a mess too. Her butt fluff is way more abundant than her friends and she also does not tilt herself. I put it down to her gammy leg.

Whereas Janet, Peggy and Ivy are pristine.

Actually Shad, I'd be very interested to know your opinion on the Sussexes now you've had a few weeks to observe them
You mean these white ones?:p:D
They are certainly bigger than what I'm used to. Marigold the hen in the picture is the top hen and that makes her temprement more difficult to establish; she doesn't have to throw her weight around like most top hens.
She's reasonably cautious of me but will eat from my hand. She's a bit of a loner in this group but she does have Henry.
She's lovely but not really my type.

I was muddled but not about Lima.
It was Copy who you thought had crop issues. You were going to see if she made it through the week and I was wondering how she was doing.

Ah yes, young Copy.
She's moulting and as we all now know, moulting hens tend to have issues that leave us worried, slow crop could well be one of these issues. It's not bad with Copy and she's eating and pooping, alert and active. I won't really know much more until she's finished her moult and it seems to me that either this year is slow or the tribes back in Catalonia were so much healthier that they got through it much more quickly. Some of this lot have been moulting for a couple of months now.

I am glad to hear Copy is muddling along.

You see I rather like large chickens. Not preposterously enormous but Sussex or Orpington sized.
