MJ's little flock

Have you got any tips? Mary is probably overdue. I'm going to wear food prep gloves because for sure some of poops will be wet, and I've borrowed a head lamp.
No, not really. I do wear thin gardening gloves & use small, very sharp scissors as getting through the poop can be quite difficult. Most of my girls are easily handled. I just put Ceres on some paper towel on the kitchen bench, which is a nice working height, with all the fluros on as I need all the light I can get. It took all of 5 minutes. She didn't like it but was very good ~ & I think very relieved next time she had to take a poop.

The neighbour puts a sock over their heads to handle them at night. It has the toe cut out to allow easy breathing. I can't decide if it's a kindness or a cruelty. I was planning to do Mary while she's on the roost, so perhaps a sock will help her be still without scaring her too much.

Soft leather ventilated hoods are best. You can get them for birds of prey.

Now where does one get those, I wonder? 🤔 I had thought of them but have no idea where you would locate them. I have known raptor handlers use a sock in an emergency but not as a regular thing....
