That's a nice way to arrive at names.Only sort of. I would say it acknowledges Bob's Sylvie.
There are lots of reasons and it just fit.
I had an Uncle and Aunt (not actually related) called Bernie and Sylvia - and she is the same breed as my Bernadette (Bernie). She is the silver color of that breed so that sort of worked.
But honestly, I am not very disciplined about naming - it just came up and seemed to fit.
Thanks Bob. I'm not looking forward to it. I already feel mildly traumatised and I haven't even left home yet.I hope it goes well for you.![]()

Good luck and courage. Maybe you can do something you enjoy after to make you feel better ?Thanks Bob. I'm not looking forward to it. I already feel mildly traumatised and I haven't even left home yet.
It's a wet and cold evening, so perhaps I'll stay in and order my favourite fried rice for delivery.Good luck and courage. Maybe you can do something you enjoy after to make you feel better ?
It was very nice but tricky to eat with one half of the mouth still numb.Hope you enjoyed the fried rice.
Here is Bernie enjoying a treat too.
Her longshanks really help her reach the tippy top of the tall grass where the seeds are.
This always confuses me about feeding guidelines - isn’t this just scratch grain (a treat that needs to be limited)? Or does that fact that she is harvesting the seeds herself make it forage and therefore OK?

Those thoughts make sense. And for sure the fact that she has to find it and grab it and strip it off the stem means she eats it slower. It was very nice but tricky to eat with one half of the mouth still numb.
I also feel a little baffled about scratch vs wild grains.
I guess one difference is that it's one grain and not a range. Another is that chickens can be very enthusiastic about treats to the point of competing to get as much as they can of thrown scratch, whereas she's not competing she's grazing. It's a slower filing up, which gives her time to think and change her mind. Another difference is the type of grain. Maybe scratch grains are humans' idea of what works on the shelves of a shop, rather than a chicken's idea of what's good to eat?
I can't think of any others right now because I'm due at a breakfast.
