MJ's little flock

Only sort of. I would say it acknowledges Bob's Sylvie.
There are lots of reasons and it just fit.
I had an Uncle and Aunt (not actually related) called Bernie and Sylvia - and she is the same breed as my Bernadette (Bernie). She is the silver color of that breed so that sort of worked.
But honestly, I am not very disciplined about naming - it just came up and seemed to fit.
That's a nice way to arrive at names.

Good luck and courage. Maybe you can do something you enjoy after to make you feel better ?
It's a wet and cold evening, so perhaps I'll stay in and order my favourite fried rice for delivery.

It was a long appointment. I arrived at 1.30 and left at 4.30. I have a new filling and a new crown.

I have to go back for a cleaning and for another crown :( 2 more teeth have cracks around very old amalgam fillings. But all the other teeth are in great condition!

Hope you enjoyed the fried rice.

Here is Bernie enjoying a treat too.
Her longshanks really help her reach the tippy top of the tall grass where the seeds are.
This always confuses me about feeding guidelines - isn’t this just scratch grain (a treat that needs to be limited)? Or does that fact that she is harvesting the seeds herself make it forage and therefore OK?

It was very nice but tricky to eat with one half of the mouth still numb.

I also feel a little baffled about scratch vs wild grains.

I guess one difference is that it's one grain and not a range. Another is that chickens can be very enthusiastic about treats to the point of competing to get as much as they can of thrown scratch, whereas she's not competing she's grazing. It's a slower filing up, which gives her time to think and change her mind. Another difference is the type of grain. Maybe scratch grains are humans' idea of what works on the shelves of a shop, rather than a chicken's idea of what's good to eat?

I can't think of any others right now because I'm due at a breakfast.

Those thoughts make sense. And for sure the fact that she has to find it and grab it and strip it off the stem means she eats it slower.
You have no idea how the phrase ‘I’m due at a breakfast’ makes me thankful I retired.
Enjoy!
🙂

It was a reconciliation breakfast, so it was awesome. But it started before dawn, so I had to open the chickens' housing when it was still dark and leave it open, which made me very worried about their safety. Until a blessing was called forth from Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal ancestors in ancient language and as it permeated my mind, I knew the hens were safe. I don't know why I found it so reassuring but I did, as is often the case with ancient ways of knowing and communicating, and I hope my instincts are proven right when I get home this afternoon.

Of course, the pigeons are going to have a field day eating chicken pellets all day long. I don't think ancient blessings can do anything about that
