It was wonderful. They have adapted so well. I love how peaceful roosting is at your place.I didn't want to leave any of the new roost crew out of the video!

They walk very securely. At first I wondered about the steepness but I think that was an artifact of the camera angle.I think so, but it hasn't happened yet and maybe not if one of them is Mary.
Also, I knew she needed a wider ramp because she's a little nervous on the narrow ramp of the little coop.
I think the non-slip is a big help. I'm sure there would be more sliding around without it.
Thank you for explaining. I will monitor her more closely. I don't want to take her to the vet unless I have real cause for worry because the drive in itself is an ordeal. The vet checked her over, felt her joints, moved the joints and said her ophysical observations tied with the behavior Hattie was exhibiting, she had arthritis. She offered to do an x-ray to confirm but I agreed with her and did not see the need. The definitive diagnosis is by x-ray. That's how we determined Lilly suffered from arthritis, x-ray.
I need an account.@BY Bob did the video link work for you?
Use your eyes. I was pretty sure she might have arthritis before the limp and sores on her chest were found. I was going to start treatment soon anyway.Thank you for explaining. If needs be, I can reduce the slope by propping the end on a higher log and using the little log as a step down. They walk very securely. At first I wondered about the steepness but I think that was an artifact of the camera angle.

I think I have one but I need to remember what the password is.
It's been much improved since @RoyalChick gave me the hint about using more than one roosting perch. That was the magic ingredient at my place. It was wonderful. They have adapted so well. I love how peaceful roosting is at your place.
They are managing it just fine. I wouldn't change anything. If needs be, I can reduce the slope by propping the end on a higher log and using the little log as a step down.
But I think it's OK for now. I'll have to see how Mary copes as she ages.
It really helps, thank you again for taking the time to explain. I need to watch her when she’s moving around and jumping up and down, and not just sun or dust bathing.Use your eyes. This is my second 5 year old chicken to suffer from arthritis. There is a general slowing down. More deliberate jumps like they are trying to decide if it is worth it. In general you will think they are slowing down with age, because they are. It will seem to bother them more when it is cooler and damp, then they will seem like their old selves on a warm sunny day.
It shows how important it is to know what their normal behavior is so you can notice the variation from normal.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I need to clarify anything.
No, I definitely need an account. I get a message saying the video has no classification so I need to connect to watch it. I tried on a different browser but got the same result. If you click the link it should load up and play.
For some reason I couldn't embed it. But I was using my mobile at the time, so perhaps I'll see the right function now I'm on a bigger screen.

I just saw the update on Hattie, i’m sorry she’s not doing better. I hope the metacam will help.
I had cat metacam dosed at 0.5mg/ml up to now and the chickens didn't seem to mind the taste. I finished the bottle and the vet gave me dog metacam at 1.5mg/ml and they won't have it on egg anymore.I’m going to try on mackerel which is stronger before going with a syringe.
