MJ's little flock

They were living in close confinement at the fodder store. At my house they have maybe 30 or 40 times more space and open sky above and some cover too. Dust bathing is available to them now. A range of food. A range of water dispensers. Fewer other chickens. Even the henhouse is 3-4 times larger than their space at the fodder store.

I think there's been a lot more opportunity for them to be at peace.

Maybe Peggy would've given up feather plucking of her own accord? But I still needed to spray Ivy's tail for the antibacterial and insect repellent benefits.
I'm pleased that the pecking is reduced or over. It's one of those silly things that one knows is a sign of distress but can't always work out what the problem is.

I've noticed that Peggy is the busiest of the chickens. She never rests properly during the day. When the other four take naps, she continues to forage. I have never seen her snoozing.

I wonder if constant doing is a bantam thing or a Peggy thing.

Either way, it might predispose her to stress behaviour when confined.

I think it must be a Peggy thing. The bantams here all snooze.

Hmmm I hope she will learn about tranquility one day. She and Mary have become friendly and Mary does tranquility pretty much all day long. It's still early days yet for Peggy.
All the tribes have snooze spots here, sometimes a couple of spots. I sit with them sometimes and watch. Once they are satisfied they are not going to get any food out of me they settle down.

That's what I do too. I have a chair in the snooze area and they all settle down around me, but for Peggy. It's a good opportunity to look at their feathers and faces.
