MJ's little flock

I'll give her my mobile later today. Hopefully Mary will show her how to send a DM :fl
:p;)

I know I'm worrying about Janet with no cause but that knowledge doesn't help. When i see her 8 or 9 lonely back feathers I feel a chill in my own back and want to give her a blanket. It's the old mirror neurons and affective empathy trouncing my rationality. I know it's wrong to warm her up and I won't try to, but that doesn't stop me wanting to.
Oh I understand completely.

I was trying to get Alice to sit in a nesting box with a hot water bottle 😟
😉

This is Lock. We are having terrible problems with her legs. She has some scaly leg mite but there is also another problem and I'm not sure what it is. Initially I thought it was straw itch mite but she perches at night. I've been doing her legs every other night much to her disgust.

@Kris5902 is the expert with scaly leg mite. She may have some more suggestions for you Shad.

I don't suppose she just has weird legs like a Dong Tao?

While I was looking for the chook breed with weird legs, I came across the Brahma.

Look at the size of this fellow! He moves like a person in a chicken suit!

Those Dong Tao... I wonder how that breed got started.

They look like they have elephantitis of the legs don't they? That's why I made it a thumbnail picture instead of full size. I find them a bit off putting.

Also why I wondered if perhaps Lock's legs might just be a bit...different?

The variation within the breed has to start somewhere.

It's one line in the bantams that has this leg problem. They get scaly leg mite like kids get takeaways. It seems to be passed down through the males. or at least they have suffered from it most. Tribe 1 very rarely get it. The cross breeds, some do some don't, mostly don't fortunately. Mag one of the bantam roosters needs his legs doing weekly. I think Lock may be the same.:hmm
