MJ's little flock

Mealworms for everyone!

I stopped in at the petshop on my way home from the office yesterday and bought meal worms.

It's not an easy task. First they have to be separated. Then I can hand out the worms.

Sandy immediately agreed to be shut in the little prefab. My little angel.

Separating Janet and Mary wasn't so easy. Both ran out of the henhouse. Both ran in the henhouse. Both ran out of the henhouse. Both in. And I wasn't just standing there passively, I was actively trying to shut the door in someone's (anyone's) face but they extremely determined to be the first to eat her share of meal worms. In the end Mary used hesize advantage to squeeze through then hesitate, which gave me the chance to shut the door on Janet.

Yayyy! Meal worms for Mary over by the woodshed. She made her excited "yum yum yum yum yum" noises. Meal worms for Sandy in the prefab, more excited and verbal chowing down, but much much quieter, "mm mm mm mm mm." Meal worms for Janet in the henhouse, silent but fierce, and all gone in moments.

:love I love those little hens.

Wow. I sit there & dole them out till they're gone. Everyone gets their share but I have one nut job who nearly misses out rushing from pile to pile excitedly but never actually grabbing any.

That's what I think too. She's a dear little hen. I've been feeding her up for months and she was beginning to look rolypoly but then she lost it all while I was in Melbourne. She must've been stressed out.

No featherless rooster to take care of her. She was lonely. Poor baby. ;)

I feed mealworms by hand. Everyone gets to eat out of my hand. What spills on the ground is for anyone to eat. It's mostly done without incident. I always make certain everyone gets their share and they tend to be more calm than if I have pasta.
