Today Sandy had her third injection of Clavulox

Good news that she is doing so much better. It's much harder playing a guessing game because there's no back history.

Eeeeee! I'm so excited because I called the one person in South Australia who breeds CCLs for the backyard market and she said for me to call back on Friday afternoon because that's when she'll be opening the incubator.

Such pretty birds too. Glad for you.

Eeeeee! I'm so excited because I called the one person in South Australia who breeds CCLs for the backyard market and she said for me to call back on Friday afternoon because that's when she'll be opening the incubator.

She usually sells day old chicks but said we could make an arrangement: if I pay her the pullet price on Friday, she'll grow them out for me and I can collect them later on.

She's got several other buyers lined up too. Hope there are plenty of little girls hatched on Friday

I already picked out their names (of course). Ivy and Hilda, after great aunts.

Although I always planned to introduce two pullets in 2020, I must admit the thought of the operation Sandy will have if the clavulox doesn't work (which I assume is a chicken hysterectomy) has spurred me into action. Mary and Janet lay enough eggs to feed me nicely, but won't provide enough to give away.

The new girls in turn will hurry me along with the new chicken accomodations, because by the time 2022 comes around I'll want another two pullets, and 7 won't be comfy in the existing henhouse.

Not to put a downer on things, but did your vet give a survivability rate for the op? And how much would it set you back?

I'm not worried about the expense, which I'm sure will be consistent with the facilities, expertise, consumables, recuperation care and housing, etc.

No, we haven't discussed the risk factors yet because I immediately selected the course of antibiotics.
