MJ's little flock

We're missing most of the heat the rest of Oz is getting, thank heavens! I've watered down the run & sand pit a couple of times for them but that sea breeze is a god send.

How is Sandy doing, MJ?
She's been strong since her last injection on Saturday. Looking at her right now, her face is a beautiful shade of tomato red, she's standing on one leg, and she's inquisitive in her expression. Moving freely. So I think she's ok this morning. She's not eating just now, but she had some table scraps already and she ate well last night.

Here's a photo taken 5 minutes ago. She's put her leg down and showing interest in eating from that plant. The tiny seeds seem to be a treat for her and Janet, but Mary doesn't bother.

Glad it's not scorching hot at your place mate, one less thing to worry about.

I'll put the hens back in the henhouse soon, pull their blind down, ice the water, and start up the misting.

Ask your vet about Suprelorin. I think it’s given to dogs to stop them from coming on heat but you can give it to chooks to stop their egg cycle. The downside is; it can be expensive and you may only get 6 - 12 months from one injection.

I just had another look; Suprelorin is an implant, not an injection and it’s used for male dogs rather than female. However, my vet said it can still be used on a chook, but you’d only get 6-12 months out of it, whereas you’d get longer for a dog. Having said that, depending on how much it costs, surgery may actually be the cheaper option. How is Sandy feeling today?

She looks great. I'm so glad to hear that she is doing better.
