It's 42.2 at present and I thought perhaps I should bring the hens inside. I was thinking they could use the bathroom and it would be quite easy to clean up after them. So I went out to the henhouse and discovered all three were panting and a little wet but it's much cooler in there - maybe 35. Mary struggles the most on a hot day, so she's sitting on a blue esky ice block. But the other two are hot but not struggling.

That is almost 108°F for those of us on this side of the Pacific. It's amazing that you can get it down to 95°. I can see why you considered bringing them in. I would consider the same thing at 108°. Keep your eye on them. How long is this supposed to last? The longer it goes the harder it will be for them.

That would be quite far away unless MJ is up against the border but it is probably still an hour and a half flight time from there. It doesn’t surprise me; cars get dreadfully hot here in summer.

Most of Oz is suffering heatwave conditions for about 4 days straight. Some places have threatened to hit 50C [that's 122F]. Being coastal & in a strange little ecological pocket, we are missing most of it. We were on the mainland Monday & it was quite awful The shops air con was struggling to cope & we headed home before the worst of it.

No, it's a long way off, two hours flight. Perth is west Adelaide is south. But the whole "I cooked food on my car" story is an old chestnut in Australia. Usually it's fried eggs last year even the police joined in and cooked an egg on a police car!
