Down here today's forecast has jumped from 42 to 45, so it'll probably reach 46 or 47. The BoM hasn't quite nailed the forecasts for heatwaves yet. It's usually hotter than they predict.

So I'm rethinking the chickens options. I might put the sprinkler on for them in the yard where there's shade til lunchtime. Or I might go get a few bags of ice to stack in the henhouse.

I have never had these problems. It is fascinating to me. You are very clever to help them as you have.

I've set it up with old sheets on the floor. Once the hens are too hot to outrun me, I'll bring them in. I tried to lure them with lettuce but they wouldn't cross the threshold. They'll have to be captured.

Mine would walk right in. You need to train them that the big coop is a fun place. Apparently at some point I unknowingly did just that.

Catching Mary was not easy.

No, this is first ever attempt. I think they'll be much better off. Now that they're inside I may keep them in til the heat wave breaks. My neighbours say I can use their bathroom in the interim It's a very comedic happening.

Sandy: They do that outside on the big farm. Why do you think I ran away? She's not going to mess up her own coop.

Mary (to Janet): Don't listen to her. I told you she was weird. My mummy warned me not to trust those humans. They are nice to you, fasten you up, and then.........

Janet (to Mary): It's like those basket rides she keeps talking about. The ocean!?! She's crazy. Don't get too close to her maybe it is catching.

It reminds me of when I brought them in out of the blizzard into my basement hallway.
