MJ's little flock

I have a friend in Tasmania who escaped a bush fire by getting in a boat and going out to sea. He builds boats and lost all his stored wood, house, vehicle, the lot and watched the whole lot go.
Was that earlier this year? I flew over when Tassie was burning and was horrified by the length of the fire front. I couldn't see the end of it :(

So much of Tassie is still bushland & such rugged terrain! Once a fire takes hold there, there's really no stopping it. :(

No, this was many years ago. They had planned to drive out if necessary. Apparently a fire just erupted much closer and with the breeze coming off the land, it moved so fast that by the time he had freed the animals and his kids and wife in the boat there was no land way out.
He rebuilt the house but the wood stock for his boat building was a sever blow.

Must've had an ember blow in and catch. It takes ages to get the right wood for boat building. Someone once told me it has to be aged. Losing it in a fire would've been heartbreaking.

I was given an amazing Christmas gift!!
