MJ's little flock

Good evening folks :frow

Shad, I don't know. One day he was happy and healthy and the next dead. I checked all the birds in that house, no parasites, no other signs of issues and he was not a light weight. In hind sight, I should have done an exam, but wasn't up to it at the time.

MJ you've done a great job with integration. Soon I need to try and replicate what you've done.

Hi @rjohns39 , I'm sorry you lost your rooster that way. :hugs I found my Emily dead on the ground one day and I have no idea why, although Lucy permanently lost her voice from the same time, so I suspect that what killed Emily affected Lucy, but she may have had more resistance to it. I have no proof of that though, just a theory.

I'd already collected Janet and Peggy's eggs today, so I was a little surprised when I heard another call for a nest escort. I immediately thought it must be Ivy! So I hurried outside and saw the other four hens off to one side, then... Awesome! An escort call from Ivy who was in the nest box! I ran back inside to grab my phone for a picture or five. When I got back, she was out of the nest box, so I went in, thrilled! Lifted the lid and... nothing

She's practicing! Or copying. ;)

Although we can't see Ivy's face, I like this photo because we can see she's bigger than Janet, even though Janet's a little further back. Also we can see Ivy's impressive leg feathers aka "vulture hocks".

And here she is next to Peggy. Hard to believe they were the same size six weeks ago.

Stunning! I love how she's still got purple feathers! :D

A heart attack maybe. Very sad and in your case, if you just had the one breeding rooster doubly so.
Harold here died of a heart attack. I found him dead on the floor when I opened up in the morning. Not a good day. The strange thing was, he died with his hackles flared.
Apart from being extremely fond of him, he was the best rooster for the hens and tribe I've had here. That didn't make him the best for humans, but he did eventually decide I wasn't that bad.

That's sad. Predictable and a normal part of life, but sad nonetheless.

I keep reading the stains to see which feathers are brand new, which ones were sprayed with cetrigen, and which ones have a bit of both. It's interesting that her feathers are pretty much the same size and shape when some are old and others quite new.
