MJ's little flock

Perhaps frozen sperm would be easier to import?

I wonder how one would artificially inseminate a hen? ....Without her "ejecting" the semen. Wouldn't that be a pain after going through all that effort!

I imagine that she would be highly likely to eject it. I don't imagine however you did it would be appealing to her. 😲

Tsuki and Deana are 4 and 1/4 at the moment. I credit BYC and your support as I'm sure I would have lost Deana at least to egg binding if I hadn't learnt a ton of stuff here.

That is old for a leghorn. How often does Tsuki lay now?

I really think this could work. At least this could give the public better information about whose chickens have better genetics. Then as a consumer you could make a more informed choice.
It's a matter of growing the market. If there were show classes on one hand and primary school teaching packages on the other, we'd have kids asking parents which ones grow old at the shows - further igniting breeders' interests in selecting for longevity.

I must say, your trust in people is heartening. I would want to be able to test the claims of the breeders.
All birds shown in Australia are ringed and recorded. Exhibitors are usually members of clubs.

They'd have to cut rings off and replace them which is likely to damage the show bird's leg

Ah, I see. This would only deal with breeders that show then...I didn't understand this.
In South Australia, most of the breeders show their birds. It's likely the same in other states. When I first decided to look at Australorps, I started at the show. All show breeders have unwanted stock destined for backyards.
