So Janet's down with infectious coryza again. I wonder if her immunity is lowered due to her moult because the other three show no signs of it.

Anyway, as it's infectious the whole troup are on lincospectin again. If she doesn't pick up in 5 days, I'm to take her back for a follow up.

She was a very good hen, stood still on the scales and didn't make a fuss at all.

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad you took her to be seen. Poor baby.

What is infectious coryza? I hope Janet is feeling better soon.

It's a bacterial infection of the eye that chickens can catch from wildbirds. It's cropped up twice now. After the first bout, I focussed on discoraging the wild pigeons by switching over to feeders they can't use and making sure the hens' leftovers were out of reach, and their numbers dropped off.

Both times Janet was the first to show symptoms. I wonder if this second onset might be due to the first one not clearing up thoroughly.

Anyway, they've got lincospectin in their water now so I hope to see her doing better over the next week or so. I'd like her to put some weight on.

Dr Hill is getting used to me now and we had a really good talk about Janet and the other hens too.

When Gedit had her major moult I tried everything I could think of to entice her to eat properly.
She would take a bit and that would be it. It was a major relief when she started eating the commercial feed again.

I might try flavouring the evening mash with some passata.

I hope she pulls through.

She's got a good vet, medication, good food and me keeping an eye on her (for what that's worth), so she's got every chance I can provide.

And she's feisty by nature, so I know she'll do her best.
