Another lovely evening. The perfect ending to a crazy week. Rex is in crazy puppy mood tonight. He loves when all the kids are back home.

This morning's eggs are Janet's, thank you Janet!

It's an interesting teacup. I bought it in an antique shop in a country town. It's stamped "Alfred Meakin England" and has other marks too. To my eye, it's overdecorated but I also like the rural idyll as a theme. It carries an unknowing irony. One thatched cottage of perhaps two rooms (is it a school or chapel?), four adults and one child, ducks, and a dog. Smoke from the chimney. The actual people the artist had in mind when making this design would have known hard work and freezing winters of the likes we can only imagine.

It feels like that, doesn't it! It's like I'm my own guest. I honour myself (and anyone else who happens to be here at breakfast) with the good china and the brewed tea and the hen's eggs

Treacle not terribly pleased with what's happened to his rear end. I found most of his missing feathers wedged in a knot in the stocknet fence up by the sheep field. I assume he forced himself through in a bit of a hurry.

I've made a tactical error. I got out of bed 30 minutes ago to seat myself on the porcelain throne, then Blossom said, "yay! It must be breakfast time!" so I gave her her breakfast, all without slippers on. I jumped back into bed to warm up and now Blossom has me pinned down. Helpless.

I'm so glad she's through her moult. And her eye seems healthy these days.
