Obeying her avian masters
Thank you Shad. I will pass the compliment on to Edwina. That's Marans brown! Good shape to it too.
Interestingly, the colour can be scratched off a bit. Maybe I can etch a pattern in some for Easter?

Poor baby, you might have to get her some ceramic ones to make her feel better.I think she's upset that her egg went missing (it's in the fridge). When I approached the yard, she walked me over to the nest box and wanted me to investigate. I complied and found the nest newly disheveled. Maybe she'd been in there trying to find her egg? Very strange.
They're very pink in that light.Well, I don't know Bob. They look kind of pinkish to me.![]()
All eggs are white when they reach the spray booth.Thank you Shad. I will pass the compliment on to Edwina.

Hmmmm, I'll have to see if I can scrape any blue off Alice or Pepper's eggs. All eggs are white when they reach the spray booth.Applying the colour is the last part of the chain. I haven't read an explanation as to why different breeds lay differently coloured eggs. Fat Bird and Mora used to get quite a thick coating on theirs. I've scraped a few to have a look. Mora used to produce a very slightly lighter coloured egg with dark flecks.
I expect you will. So, when I let the hens out this morning, Mary went to the nest as fast as she could. She's still in there. She laid 16 eggs in January and none since. I hope to find a gift from her later![]()
I've never seen egg laying play by play before. This is awesome! She's out of the nest and calling for an escort. Ivy's still in the nest box, so I won't check for a Mary egg just yet.
Hooray! Way to go Mary! She did it!!
I assume the one with speckles at one end is Mary's egg because the other is typical of Ivy's.
