I raised both of my daughters to not consider any job role a man's or a woman's. Both wound up in traditional male jobs and I could not be prouder. It has been difficult for them at times. My oldest, an architectural engineer just left a firm over the misogyny that became apparent when she had Eve. Her new firm values her greatly. My youngest is an attorney who has dealt with horrible treatment from court staff including judges.I'm of the view that women should be supported to take on any non-traditional work they wish. And I feel the same way about men. I know a man who's a marvellous hairdresser with 80% women clients. His work is inventive and beautiful. Another man who's the "mum" in the family because his wife makes more money to keep them all going. Biological differences don't extend as far as society thinks and we each have our own unique capabilities we should work to.
(editing to add the hairdresser isn't gay because that's another pernicious social norm that needs disruption)
Also, on a more personal note, I have had trouble with some male tradies adopting a patronising attitude towards me. On two occasions, two different men, I've been asked "do you want x? " and I've answered a clear No. I've come home from work and x has been done to the home my great grandfather provided![]()
Music to my ears... Err eyes.I raised both of my daughters to not consider any job role a man's or a woman's. Both wound up in traditional male jobs and I could not be prouder. I would hate to be the tradesperson that crossed either of them. In fact, my youngest just destroyed Home Depot over a custom window they installed not to her satisfaction.
Sounds like a wonderful society.I don't really do that support stuff. All I'm interested in is can they do the job. This particular person trains the forest rangers here in chainsaw skills. I know her through my wood carving. We got talking at one of the fairs. There's stuff I can do and stuff I can't. These two trees need to come down right and I couldn't do it.
I'm a bit odd; if I see openly gay people on the streets, prostitues not being harrased by police or public, black, yellow and brown people looking as prosperous as their white counterparts and women working on the road gangs then I'll want to live there.
You can see most of that here and in this respect Catalonia is very progressive compared to may places I've been.
I'm sorry. This place can be very distracting.I've only gone and burnt my supper again. It's the fault of BYC. I'm going to send the staff my washing up!
