MJ's little flock

I've been getting caught out at dusk recently. I judge roosting time by the daylight left and get the chickens supper ready. Recently the change from dayligh to deep dusk seems to have accelerated and last night and tonight I'm trying to get chickens out of trees when it's got to dark for safe flight. It happens every year and lasts about ten days then the shift seems to settle. I've never been sure if it's my perception or there is a change in how quickly the light goes.
That's very interesting. I wonder what that's about. 🤔

There's just no pleasing me.:D
I complain when they all turn up and spend a few hours here at the amount of toilet roll and oxine I get through. I whine when they don't show up for days on end.
Today was perfect. They all arrived; Treacle is in the doorway, had a bit of food and checked the place over then went off to digest under the balckthorn bush. Only one pile of poop to clean up!:wee

You are a part of their world and they would miss you dearly. You are just like any parent. You miss them when they are gone and glad when the visit is over.

I've just had another update on Peggy.

Her fecal float came back negative, so that's good. She did some unassisted eating of pellets first thing in the morning, so that's good too. And she's getting sassy.

She's still on her antibiotics and crop feeding regimen. They're giving her granivore wombaroo with her enzymes mixed in. So she's staying at the vet's over the weekend for more treatment and recovery.

I think this a good idea because the stronger she is before coming home, the greater her chances of flourishing once she's back in my care.
This is excellent news. You are right of course about her being strong when she comes back to you. Good job on your part realizing that she needed help. Who will be going along as support chicken this time?

The fog finally rolled in 😁
