Oh hi thanks for joining in! The big thing at present is that Peggy's in hospital. She went off her food when she moulted, like they do, but in her case it meant she wasn't getting enough of her suuplementary enzymes and she lost condition and became vulnerable to infection. Supplementary enzymes are important for Peggy because she was born with an insufficient pancreas. Without additional enzymes, she can't digest her food. So anyway, I saw she wasn't eating enough and took her to see Mark the vet. He's kept her for crop feeding and a couple of courses of antibiotic. If she doesn't thrive, an xray is next on the diagnostic list.

He's exceptionally good. He specialises in birds and has chickens of his own. The standard of care she's receiving there is far higher than I can provide at home. Although I imagine she must be missing her freedom.

She's not doing as well as she ought to, given she's getting all the nutrients she needs. She's on a second round of antibiotics. If that doesn't work, I've given permission for them to take an xray.

We've known about her digestive insufficiency for a long time. If she's going to succumb to anything it'll be her inability to convert food into good health.

The good news is that the other three are doing great after two hot days, which were all a bit much for Mary. We has storms overnight so everything is cool again.

I doubt many vets would have even found the problem. Nobody could say you haven't done your best by her MJ.
