It's not something I've noticed MJ. What I see is extra eating up to five days before they sit. Most tend to become slightly less involved in the group/tribe as sitting date gets closer. Two and three days before most show broody behaviour towards other chickens as in fluffing up a clucking. I say most here because there are the odd few that have seemed fine as usual one day and sat the next. Perhaps I've missed the signs.
Donk for example, one gets at least a weeks warning and she wonders how I find her so quickly.
Nolia on the other hand you need to watch like a hawk. It's the extra eating that gives her away.

Bathing here is a strange business. They all like long baths in slightly damp soil. Depending on the amount of rainfall seems to dictate how many will bath that the next day usually. Perfect dampness and they are all at it.
Have you checked her over for paraistes and is she moulting. Moulting hens here bath a lot. When thhey moult, the new feather shafts seem to produce more oil than fully developed ones. Keeping the oil clean as the feathers grow out seems to be very important to them.

Thanks Shad, she's not moulting but I'll check her for parasites and might give them all a spray on Monday night. I'd rather not stress Peggy tonight because it's the night before her operarion.

The need for a side gate has escalated way out of all proportion. I bolstered the fence of the chicken yard, but it's nothing to Janet now. She's letting herself out of the yard whenever. If it weren't for Mary, I wouldn't even know about it - she calls me to come and see what's happening.

I may even have to just put up a ply barrier until I can get a proper gate.

Eta I'm proud of Janet for taking up responsibility for her own foraging but she doesn't appreciate the risk of dogs running off the leash.

You should do something. Even if it is plywood.

That is actually helpful to know. I can keep an eye on Sydney next spring.

That's my one and only yellow cup which is mismatched with the saucer but they still look great together! I deliberately used that one to show ACM because she showed her lovely yellow cup and saucer recently.

It's hot and humid today, so they're all in the henhouse under the misting. I'll let them out later on so them can get some exploring done.

I was hoping to see a breakfast post from you MJ.

Ah well. Better late than never!

That's my one and only yellow cup which is mismatched with the saucer but they still look great together! I deliberately used that one to show ACM because she showed her lovely yellow cup and saucer recently.

I would never have guessed that they were mismatched unless you told me. They are very pretty.

I'd like to post some of my mismatched crockery soon too. If only I could get the family out of the kitchen!
