MJ's little flock

Ivy has decided against the nest this morning. At last!

I've checked the calendar and she took to the nest on February 10. Today is March 17. What is that... 35 days of sitting.

I was going to leave her be until she decided to be up, but with such a long broody session, the last three nights I've carried her from the nest to the roost.
She is obviously committed to hatching. I think you can rely on the fact that she will set a nest to completion.

I'm glad you intervened. That was a very long brood. I get concerned because she will lose weight when sitting no matter what she eats. It can't be healthy for them to experience weight loss and gain like that.

21 days is the normal length of time. I would not let her carry on much beyond that myself.

I was trying to not intervene in her behavioural choices but she took it too far. I had been ensuring she was properly fed and watered.

It's Knock. She's one of those hens whose looks convey her personality quite well. She is pretty mean and stand offish. Maybe it's just my perception because I know her.

She looks well though. Her eye is very bright/vitriolic!
