MJ's little flock

It's a small stack of "read these now" books and it's got two copies of The Voyage Out in it because the copy I ordered a few weeks ago arrived yesteday. I'll be sad to say farewell to the copy from the Colin Thiele collection, but I don't have to return it for a while yet 😉

That's the old woodstove! It still works but I don't use it much. The gas is too convenient. We still have the old Cookerburra cast iron gas stove, but it's in the shed and disused. The gas plumber said it was leaking gas quite badly.

It's a dear old house. I love it 🤗 🥰
An old Cooker (Kooka?)! Lucky you. I've heard of them but never seen one.
Old houses have so much more character than more modern ones. Does your house also have high ceilings, an out door laundry with a concrete tub and a spot where the copper used to stand?
The laundry of the house I grew up in had that sort of laundry. My grandma also had one of those double washing machines that washed on one side and spin dried on the other.
I remember using a mangle at one stage too.

Ah, nostalgia. 🤗

It just seems like a wonderful house and more special with each glimpse of it I see.

They can be very good to each other sometimes. It takes a long time before they trust and love each other though.
It does. It has been over a year since I integrated my last batch and I was finally enjoying the different pairings as they wandered the yard the other day. Lord knows that mine still peck at each other but it seems like everyone understands their place. Of all things, I actually watched Phyllis bring the tribe together the other day.

I really hope that @Ribh remembers that as she integrates yet 2 more batches of hens. She is asking a lot of her tribe. They are going to need time to sort everything out and it will be stressful as they do.

I have been spoilt with my integrations so far, but by the end of the afternoon the Vorwerks too had jumped the fence & were happily free ranging through my yard. :idunno

The laundry is outside, it used to be a fibro hut but dad removed it and rebuilt it in concrete blocks. You can see the laundry in this photo.

It does have a concrete double sink which is where I bath Mary sometimes.

And it still has a gas fired copper but it's not connected to the gas any more because the pipe was leaking.

For a long time, the laundry was where the toilet was, and there's still a toilet in there, but it doesn't function. I need to replace it, but it's a very low priority task. Dad had a toilet made inside the house, which I'm very grateful for, but it's still on the wrong side of the back door and sometimes I only just make it in time! A more conveniently located toilet is higher up the to do list! Even higher up the list is a safe bathroom for my old age. Even higher than that is the front veranda which is subsiding - this is getting slowly underway. So you can see why I don't really care about the non-functioning outside toilet in the laundry :gig
