MJ's little flock

Charlie’s all good again, River’s still not the best. However, the mucky beard feathers seem to be a little less and she does eat, just not the feed. Yesterday she was standing on the step with her tail down and her eyes half-closed, but a while later I found her digging a hole to China! I’ve been giving her crop a bit of a massage at night and fencing her off so she can have yoghurt with baby bird formula in peace.
Sounds good. Hopefully she'll continue on a healing path :fl

I've been watching the hens while I eat my toast and they love all their new climbing options. In 20 minutes I've seen Mary, Peggy and Janet take up different positions on this log or that. Only Ivy has remained on the ground. And since I put the little shade shelter together, Janet has used it as her castle twice that I know of. She loves napping in there. I may do an expansion so she can have visitors.

Well that sounds a little better. I think this can be a slow path to health. You're doing great. Keep it up. 👍

Success! Well done! You observed, created, and they love it! Way to go! :clap

Sounds like an exciting jungle gym x cubby house for chooks. Now I want to play in there too! 🥰😆

Once you fill the ground level with exciting branches you'll have nowhere left to go except up! I'm looking forward to seeing what other wonderful play structures you come up with. :pop

I think the hens are right with you :gig

Once the sparrow situation has concluded, I'll start working on the roost. That'll be a big challenge for me. I'll have to plan it carefully and build it slowly.

And at some point I'll organise for the old concrete to be removed and after that, for the pavers to be laid.

My friend who's a blacksmith is going to make some nice handles for the human doors once the forge gets going again.

The weather vane arrived after a long delay and it turned out to be a piece of decor and not a real weather vane (I'm kicking myself over that).

I'd like to harden the mid rail and human doors, which seem vulnerable to a determined predator to me.

I'd also like to place railway sleepers around the perimeter within the coop, more for peace of mind than anything else.

By the time all that's done, it'll be due for a paint job :gig

Anyway, don't hold your breath! It's going to happen slowly and that's the perfect place for me :)

Sounds fantastic, and very well thought out. So exciting! So much to look forward to!:love

Maybe your blacksmith can make you a better weather vane based on the design of the “decor” one?

I have a feeling a functional weather vane which is also a beautiful rooster would take an extremely long time. I'm going to try buying another one but this time I'll try to be smarter about it.
