MJ's little flock

News update

My dog very much needed a walk after being trapped for days due to rain plus I'm trying to get someone to help me get logs that I need for charcoal. So I put some wire between the girls too save any trouble while we went on our walk.

As I got back I was horrified because my two girls were not in their contained area, the wire had fallen. I thought cat fox or had they been attacked by my older girls :hit

Imagine my complete surprise too find this...

They are taking care of things themselves. 🥰

It was a huge relief, it's getting very cold here. I'm surprised that princess is the meanest, she's usually getting picked on.

I left them for short times on and off and was surprised yet again, amber was stood with them at one point and the three were just looking in at flexi and princess through the fence. Bob have you and Alex popped over and trained them, this is just unbelievable

Flexi is settling down to the idea they are here to stay, she was upset for days and wasn't eating very well but today it all turned around and they even ate each other's food. Until it came too meal worms then princess got possessive. :)

Edited I forgot to add all five together

It's not suitable Shad.

I made a deep soil nest with straw on top but she sat in the little coop instead. It has a flat, hard floor. But there's a lot of straw in there. A minute ago I added even more straw because of her leg cramps and in doing so, I covered up her spot.

I could introduce her to the deeper one. Should I? It's covered but not fully weather proof. Here's a picture of the deep nest. There's about 30cm of soil under the straw.

And here's a photo of the little coop. She was sitting in it's best box.

And now she's chosen to stand, which is a good sign, although she's holding her head tucked in so maybe her cramps are lifting but she's still a bit sore.

Not much point in moving her if she isn't going to hatch eggs. Better to stop her sitting altogether.

I don't have all you have mentioned but I do have milk thistle and the layers pellets.

All their livers seem fine the exception being that I'm still concerned for amber. But they are having yogurt layers and fermented layers
Yeh, don't feed the supplements I listed to healthy hens. Healthy hens don't need supplements. They need good chicken food and foraging.

And I won't feed tumeric to my sick hen (unless her vet prescribes it for her).

Deal?
