MJ's little flock

i tried to lay robust emotional groundwork but even with that prep, I'm still very sad for the squashed chick and disappointed my hopes and more importantly, the hens hard work, have come to nothing so far.
Wait, I’m confused. There really was a squashed chick?

Are you going to give little chickie a name? They were here, even if it was ever so briefly. :hugs
You know what, Lozzy? I think it was a little cockerel. At least, it had a pronounced comb for a chicken that didn't even hatch.

So I think we'll go with Magnus. That's the name of my great-grandfather whose house I live in and in whose garden little baby Magnus will lie in.

Yes there was.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect Peggy of stepping on it or pressing down on it too hard.

There are still two eggs under Ivy, one of them is a non-starter and the other one had an embryo when I candled it.

That's so touching. Rest well little one.

Oh, gosh. I’m so sorry. I think my heart would ache a little in your shoes. Actually, it aches a little even not being in your shoes. I know it’s nature, but it’s still sad :hugs
It was a hard day. Especially for the chick.

Ugh. Here it is. I didn’t read far enough back. How sad.
Yes. And I was sitting right there, sticking to my decision to not interfere. In most cases, that would be the right thing to do, but in this one, I should've kept Peggy from going back into the nest once the chick had started hatching under Ivy.
