MJ's little flock

I heard back from Mark who tells me Janet's crop problem is bacterial, so I'll get some linco from him tomorrow morning.

And Ivy laid an egg! So that would've been the lump he felt.

Also, as far as I can tell, Ivy has been on her feet all day (except when she laid). It's nice when they decide to stop sitting! I didn't have to do anything.
That's great! 👍

Wonderful news! I'm so happy for all 3 of you.

That's great news on Ivy. I am surprised that she started laying again so quickly after being broody, but she knows what she is doing!

I hope so too. I bet that it is. Did she lose any weight while setting?
I'm sure she would have because that's normal. She was 1.7kg yesterday but I don't know what she weighed before. I asked about her weight and Mark wasn't concerned about it.

If a hen kept her weight while setting I'd be worried because that is not right.

It's been more than a month since her last egg, is that soon? I thought it was about right.
My hens usually take around ten days after being broody to get back to laying. They don't even look at the nest in that part of their cycle.
It was surprising to me that she switched gears so quickly. Perhaps it's a sign that she is in good condition and doesn't need to build up her body stores before laying again.
To my eyes, my hens lose weight while broody. Next summer I want to try and weigh them as soon as they go broody to see what happens.

She certainly ate and drank regularly throughout. She's very good at taking time for her needs.

Do your hens sit for the whole three weeks or do you discourage them?
