I wonder where we got "lollies" from?

Not sure, but the Wikipedia entry on ‘candy’ seems to be well-referenced.

I spend a lot of time doing just that . Before we came here I was afraid I would get bored or lonely but it's just the opposite, the more I do nothing the more I enjoy it !

I love each of the individual names especially Lorna (because of Lorna Doone). Mixed lollies sounds really good, and I didn't know the word.
Where did you buy them ? Here they were (probably still are) sold in bakeries. When we were sent to buy the bread as kids once in a while we were given (or found some ludicrous way to earn) some spare cents to get some .
Prepare yourself for some crazy excitement and worries !

I bought mixed lollies at the corner shop. It was a small family business and they sold lollies, chips, milk, bread, a few groceries, cold drinks, chocolate and the newspaper.

Can't wait for the little ones to join the household!

You've reminded me of a funny story. Excuse me if you've heard it before.

I was in Poitiers for a day before my cousin collected me and took me to Sommieres du Clain.

I was walking around the town, enjoying myself but started feeling hungry, so I walked into a boulangerie and said "parlez vous anglais?"

"Non."

Oh dear. How on earth will I order my croissant now???

There's not much going on with the hens just now. Mary is gradually rediscovering the capabilities of her body and doing more rushing about. Peggy is mellowing. Ivy is as endearing as ever.

Janet is the only mystery. I've increased the dosage of probiotics because she sneezed a few times last week and it appears to have helped her.

Saturday morning I'll call to see if I can pick up the new pullets and if so, that'll give me lots of excitement for months

I kind of envy your peace. At the same time I am excited for your new pullets.

They will be heritage breeds, but a surprise mix of 3

What will happen is the people who specifically want this breed or that breed will get their pullets first, then I'll have 3 of the leftovers. I think that's what their team name might be: "The Leftovers" Or "The Mixed Lollies" I can't make up my mind.

Their individual names will be drawn from the family women as usual. Katie, Christa, and Lorna if they fit.

Otherwise, I'll recall some other family women to name them.

I love "The Leftovers". That is excellent.

When MJ said mixed lollies, I thought of Licorice Allsorts. Did you have those? Or are they a Brit thing?

Maybe Australians are using the words lollies because its an English term? But then who says sweets? Isn't sweets the English term?

@Ribh is sorely missed. I hope that things normalize for her soon and enable her to return to us.
