MJ's little flock

By the way, did you cut up that piece of “cooked chicken” to see what it is? That sounds like possible salpingitis.
No. I didn't cut it.

I agree it seems like salpingitis or something like that. I'm not even sure which one laid it.

I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings.

With all they've been through I think there is a good chance of it being from stress. I don't know what happened to them before they arrived to your place, but maybe they had a day or two without access to chicken feed ?
If you haven't yet, maybe give them access to oyster or egg shells when you can.
Hopefully they'll come good with time.

I'm not sure how I got the idea, but I was thinking three weeks was the usual. If only two weeks is necessary, that's a bonus to both the pullets who can go play outside sooner and to the refugees who can have better accommodations sooner.
You got 3 weeks from me. And I have shortened the recommended time to then from months. I chose 3 weeks because of mycoplasma. After 3 weeks you are looking at some rare things that I feel are low risk.

It was also recommended on the handout given me by the fodder store when I picked up the pullets. Then there are the people who suggest months, which simply isn't practical for me.

It seems unlikely the pullets would've had a chance to pick up mycoplasma in only 14 weeks of life, but given Janet's pre-existing bacterial challenges I won't tempt fate.

Likely is stress related but they are layers. Pay close attention as I know you will.
Yes. This morning they're far more perky than yesterday and they're tucking in to their food and water. They seem happy instead of frightened. They're also more active with lots of hoping up on to and over their log perch instead of under or around.
