MJ's little flock

We're back from the vet and all's well but for an odd substance expelled by Lorna, which Mark has taken a sample of. It appears to have come from her vent.

And he thinks Edie might be a cockerel with a wide pelvis. Understandably sexed as a pullet. So that's a wait and see situation.

If she's a cockerel, the options are return to the fodder store and exchange for a pullet (I have no clue how humane his end would be), or keep him until he's noisy then have him humanely put to sleep. I'll probably keep him until he's noisy. He might as well live the high life while he can.

The next appointment was for Peggy and Mary on hatch day, so I've said Mary will be too busy for her appointment so let's give it to Janet instead.

At some point, the river chickens will need check ups too.

There is a swab for MG but Mark said it's cheaper to keep them in quarantine, so just carry on for another week.

Lorna is v sleepy after the trip to the vet.

Ps Mark said "Ooo! Pretty!" when he saw Edie :)

It's time for a river chickens update. Here they are tucking in to half a tomato a moment ago.

When I got home from work, another properly shelled egg had been laid, opened and eaten. Hmmm.

Let's put it down to the stress of confinement for now and see if it happens again.

They're making good use of their space, going into all the nooks and crannies, but it's indoors and only 7m2.

I'll have to come up with more ways to keep them busy. Maybe one whole tomato or apple every day.
