Thanks Shad. I thought Bela would be used to being handled twice a day now (when they check in and out of the Banned-cock Hilton) but he still carries on like he’s being murdered!

Yup.
If things carry on in a positive manner you may find that the boys are a lot more entertaining than the girls, a lot harder work sometimes, but a greater reward ime.
If you've cared for children through teenage years and one or more were males then pretty much all those stages are replicated in cockerels, but thankfully they get through them a lot faster.

Joyce is unhappy enough to need a vet appointment, so she's got one for tomorrow afternoon.

Her symptoms are nothing like Janet's. There's no sneezing, no facial swelling, no mucus.

She's in the penguin pose more often than not and when I gently touched her belly it felt too soft.

The similarities are quite remarkable. However, don't worry, after all the fights and generally antisocial behaviour there comes a day when your son will be big enough and old enough to put his arm around you and tell you he loves you and all those years of stress and discord will fade away.
If you have daughters the long term outcome may not be quite so rosy.
