MJ's little flock

Last night I had a 5.30 meeting followed by a dinner. The neighbours took over my cat and chicken duties.

I really missed them!

Blossom was so happy when I arrived home at 10pm she galloped all around the house and let herself purr when I patted her 🄰 the hens were already asleep but I still went out to say goodnight. One of them whispered back, I'm not sure who it was.

Christa is having an interesting moult. It started at her eyes and has been creeping backwards along her neck.

At this point she looks like she's wearing a woolly scarf for winter! Very sensible.

That surely is an interesting molt.

Lovely light. Sunset, trees , and a roof looks peaceful anywhere in the world I think.
It's still winter for you, right ? Is it unusual that Christa should be molting now or do your other hens molt coming into spring ?
Officially it's winter until September, but this evening is not very chilly. I don't need my parka.

I'm not worried about her moult. Although it's later than the four hens who've lived here longer, she's maybe not attuned to the peninsula micro-climate yet.

Here's an action shot :D
