Here are the marauders, all set for the night.

I haven't said anything about it, but on Friday night Christa deposited a chunk of herself on the marauders towel overnight. She must've thought it was a painful poop. It's the size of a wide frankfurter. It looked a bit like one of these. I've kept it in a plastic container in the fridge in case the vet wants to see it. I'm about to call the surgery to see if an appointment is necessary.

Her comb was pale beforehand and she was quieter than usual. She perked up a lot since passing it. No wonder.

Anyway here she is, putting away some dinner.

Poor Christa . Do you think it's something like what happened to Joyce ? I hope that since she seems better now it's not too serious.
Pale comb could also be caused by the molt.?

Her moult is a factor in her joyfulness but she was particularly preoccupied on Friday. I was worried about her. Then when I saw the thing she passed, I was shocked and worried until it was clear she was quite cheerful for a moulting hen.

Anyway, I've I called the surgery and told them the full story. They said Mark's away but they'll tell the other vet and call me back if an appointment is needed.

I think it's not uncommon for hybrid laying hens to push such things out. It's quite shocking to see something like that among the poops.

If she were looking sick, I'd take her for a checkup immediately, but I've been spying on her and she still runs everywhere instead of walking. She's still pouncing on the youngsters. So I think maybe I don't need to be worried.

The vet staff have called me back and requested a photo of the lump Christa pushed out.

It doesn't seem right to say "she laid it" because it happened overnight. I don't think she was intentional about it.

For sure her reproductive system is not right, producing that big lump. But I already knew that from her breeding.

Whether it will become a systemic health problem is the real question.

Lash eggs are made up of many layers. Like an onion sort of.
They are not eggs.
It means she has salpingitis. That is not good. But not a death sentence. It can be viral or bacterial. If bacterial, antibiotics should help.

It's a lot bigger than the other lash eggs I've seen. 4-5 times bigger. I've emailed the photo through. No doubt I'll hear back in the morning.

If she were exhibiting any other symptoms, I'd be more worried.

Very hard to put into words.
You can taste the cask. It's very very smooth. It doesn't change from taste to burn on the way down. Very easy drinking. Ask my eldests husband.
We needed collecting at the end of the night.

That is a good scotch then!
