MJ's little flock

The hens have established a new morning routine to go with life in the new roost box. One by one, starting with the youngest, they
  1. Awaken.
  2. Step off the roost and eat breakfast, including sips.
  3. Depart the roost box.
  4. Rest, digest, and discuss what everyone dreamed about.
  5. Find something to stand on and commence preening.
  6. Second breakfast, including sips.
  7. Lazy dust bathing or foraging within the run, including excessive joy at finding tasty morsels.
  8. First snoozing.
  9. Second preening.
  10. Third breakfast.
  11. and so on.
At some point, usually late morning, they begin to worry that I'll never open the run up. If I notice their concern, I open the run.

Two broodies off the nest last week.

A new broody this week.

She's a darling 😍

Shad, this nest has a soil foundation under the straw. I say soil, but it's from the backyard so it's sand more than soil, but she's made a nice bowl to sit in.
