I did not realize that roosting could occur without physical violence. Just amazing to watch. The littles have integrated nicely.

I have been fortunate that I have been able to rehome my cockerels to trusted places since Jabberwocky. It is a difficult thing when you have to take these measures.

Thanks Lozzy. I'm still feeling sad and disappointed in myself. I should've thought to get auto-sexing chicks, but I expected be OK with saying goodbye to cockerels. Trouble is, they're so trusting, sweet and endearing.

My exact thought. It's one thing to be ok with the idea of killing the males in a humane way, and it's another thing when you actually have to experience it.
Keeping chickens make us face many hard facts up close.

I agree also with what you said in a previous post. Auto sexing chicks mean the males are killed by the breeder, and who knows how. In a way, you could say you gave those two cockerels the gift of several weeks of life in a wonderful home.

I can't see a solution I'm totally happy with honestly and I'm selfishly glad to know that I'm not the only one who find this a painful issue.

Autosexing sounds great. Thought my Amrocks were autosexing, but even the owner of the breed was in the blind/not sure.

Thanks Lozzy, I was so sick last week. Just beginning to get back to normal again, but still rather naseous. Not sure what it was, except to say it wasn't covid. A virus of some description.

Nothing has changed with the chickens. The Vulture is still a quiet little boy but getting so big!

We're just heading into a heatwave, which will be a challenge for the chickens. I may put the hose on a trickle for them.
