MJ's little flock

Thanks Lozzy, I was so sick last week. Just beginning to get back to normal again, but still rather naseous. Not sure what it was, except to say it wasn't covid. A virus of some description.

Nothing has changed with the chickens. The Vulture is still a quiet little boy but getting so big!

We're just heading into a heatwave, which will be a challenge for the chickens. I may put the hose on a trickle for them.
I hope you feel better soon! Everyone misses you!

Hi friends, I'm better now (mostly) and will try to spend more time on BYC. The Vulture is starting to crow but he's so quiet it seems premature to take him to the vet. Most days he doesn't crow at all. 2-3 days week he crows quietly. Katie is broody, but I'm not trying another hatch. I haven't the energy for it. I'm very sad to say Erica died last week. It was sudden. I'm not going to pursue an autopsy. However, I have found an affordable cremation option, which I'm going to try with Erica and if it works out nicely, I'll use that option in future. Melissa seems to be doing well. Mary has started what looks like hiccups, so I'll be making an appointment for her tomorrow. Ivy and Peggy are moulting (so is Mary) and it seems nobody has a tail right now. I've had a house guest (my cousin from Berlin) and next weekend I have another house guest (my aunty from Queensland). Work is very busy. I hope all of you are doing well and I'd love an update if you feel like writing one. Thanks to all of you who reached out through text messages and the post, I was very touched.

Soo glad you are feeling much better again.
Sorry about Erica 😔 :hugs .

Here things are just fine. The flock is doing well. With spring in the air, we have more than enough eggs with the 3 youngest hen laying very nicely.

I had a hen once with a kind of hick-up too that worried me. She got over it after a couple of days /within a week.

I'm very happy you're back MJ ! 🙂🙂🙂 I was afraid maybe you left BYC for good.
I hope the "mostly" doing better isn't anything to worry about, and that you will be totally well soon ! From experience having guests + loads of work doesn't always allow one to rest as much as needed to recover. Try to make sleep a health priority!

:hugs For Erica. We didn't get to know her very well, but she was obviously bonding to you. I hope Melissa can find her place with the other hens. And I'm glad you can give the vulture a bit more time, I'm sure he is enjoying each new day as it comes.

Here is a quick update on the chickens des Sauches. Alba was very unwell after laying a no shell egg at the end of January ; she is hanging on but not really recovering. Laure's implant wore off, she laid a few eggs some of which abnormal, stopped for 17 days, and has began laying perfect eggs again. So no new implant for now. And little Chipie had very worrying seizures for three weeks but they seemed to have stopped a week ago. All the other chickens are fine, Merle is turning broody and Léa thinking about it !

Have a nice sunday everyone - MJ seeing you posting again makes it a good day for me 😊.

So good to see you back.

Terribly sorry about Erica. She was a sweet little one. :hugs :hugs :hugs

We did cremation for Phyllis and that is likely what we will be doing moving forward. It was not cost prohibitive. I hope you find it the same as we did.

Thought I'd share a photo so you can see how big The Vulture is.

He is surprisingly easy to be around. I respect his space. I respect his relationship with Melissa. He has only rushed at me twice and he didn't make contact. I realised it was because I ran late with dinner, so I serve up on time and he leaves me be.
