Clog checks are part of the morning routine.

It's getting easier to tell Nancy and Nelly apart. Nancy has the yellow head, Nelly the white.

I love how they can both peck and discuss at the same time.

I would be tempted to try an experiment and see what happens if you scrape the ground with the clogs, imitating the actions of a mother hen digging to find food. You could even bury some grains or similar and then return to that spot with the chicks and uncover the grains using your feet.
If you scratched as a hen does would the chicks learn to get in front of your foot rather than behind where the get covered in the dirt their mother kicks up.
