I'm sorry!

Losing them is hard.

Yes, I lost quite a few chicks. There were lots of runts this time around. It happens... Anyway, some of my birds are fully feathered and some of my bantams like laying cold happen anytime now!

Yeah, I've had a higher attrition rate this year than last year. I have a lot more chickens, but even the difference in percentage is astounding; plus, I have most of the loses from my original flock this year not last year when they were little. Go figure!

My newest little ones are beginning to feather out (almost 3 weeks old) and one of my bantam pullets squatted for me yesterday. Hopefully, they'll be laying soon too.

Ah okay. Chickens are so costly in the time they are not laying. haha My bantams are nearly 5 months old.

Cool! Mine are a month behind yours. Maybe the heat here will help them mature and start laying sooner.

same here, they are 18 weeks and one is 19 weeks, but not much pre-lay behavior. their combs are starting to redden slightly.

actually, they have a problem with the nesting box in the coop. they kick out all the bedding in it, and when I add more it doesn't last even a couple hours. im thinking of screening it off with chicken wire with a couple fake eggs/golf balls so they get used to it a little.
any other thoughts?

Maybe they are trying to make a nest for themselves?

maybe, though they seem more interested in scratching through the straw.
hopefully when they start their laying cycle they will adopt the box as a nest
