Moderating Feed.

I make sure the feeders are filled 24/7 in spite of the fact the birds free range this time of year. The only difference is that it takes less food to fill the hanging feeders when they're out and about. Worked for me for 26 yrs.

My chicks range from 5 to 4 weeks old and the two chick feeders I had out were just not enough to last through the day while I am at work. I started using a 12# hanging feeder yesterday and it seems to be working fine, so far. I plan to keep the feed available 24/7. I am presently not allowing them to range in my back yard, mainly because I do not want them getting into my neighbor's yard, but plan to when they are grown and laying. By then, they should be big enough to keep them below my 4' fence. It will be interesting to see how much difference that makes in their feed intake.
