I loved knowing that 'those chickens out there' depended on me, and that ever after noon when I'd bring them their daily cottage chesse (to help with the egg shell strength), they'ed all run to me and happily wait until I would give them their favorite food. And I miss them...

On my birthday while I was outside taking care of them I recieved letter explaining that one of my so called "friendly naighbors'" complained to the city about us having chickens.

Now that this petition came up I was so excited. It would allow us to have chickens.
each vote DOES truly matter to me...

I don't think Lazy J Farms was trying to upset you. Local laws are supposed to be determined by local residents.

I'm sorry you lost your chickens but people who do not live there should not have a say in the matter.

The petition even states that only people who live there should sign.

"As the economy deteriorates and as we develop more concern about where our food comes from; people all over America are looking
to save money and have control over what they eat and the same is happening in Michigan. If you believe you should have more control on what you eat and at the same time have some high quality, nutrient rich eggs and fertilizer at low costs, if you want a green way to recycle your kitchen scraps.. and if you live in Portage Michigan........ go ahead and sign our petition."

I kept the chicken inclubater in my room and I got small blankets and a pellow and made a "floor bed" right next to the baby chicks.
This may not sound silly for 10 yr olds, but I'm a teen. So that makes it extra crazy

(Maybe that is why I feel so close to chickens, after spending so much time with them)

I don't sign petitions like this either.......I agree issues like this should be decided by the people who live there....not those of us who live hundreds and thousands of miles from your area.

That is why I don't sign.....it's not fair to either side to bring in outsiders to decide a very local issue.

If you feel it is not right for you to sign I am not forcing you, or telling you to. I am merly asking if you could. I do not want to start a "Thread fight" about this. So you are not obligated to this, nor do I want you to sign you think you shouldn't.

Eta: For your sake, I changed my Siggie to not sound so urgent. But as long as it is "ok" for others to sign this petition, I will post it in my signature.

I did a little reasearch and it is "ok" to sign petitions without living there.

Getting outside support for ordinance is the EXACT same tactic used by the TRUE enemies of Animal Agriculture (I won't use the acronyms so the thread won't be killed). They recruit college students to travel from Berkley and other places to pose as "concerned local citizens" to garner support for ANTI Animal and ANTI Agriculture support.

Of course I guess if it supports YOUR cause, generating support from those that won't be affected by the ordinances is good.
