Modern game swallowed string

Thanks I will attempt that. I doubt she's trying to lay. I don't know her exact age but she is an 08 hatch and hasn't laid yet in the six weeks I've had her. Her comb is reddening so she is getting close to that age.

I had to go to work. I couldn't watch her or do anything else for her. I left her an hour ago in a crate with brown rice soaked with oil. I remembered that's what we do for dogs when they eat bones. It really helped them pass smoothly. She still hadnt passed anything but was pretty alert. I am just crossing my fingers for her. Everyday lately has been filled with miracles and tragedies, well see how this one goes.

If she is alert it's a VERY good sign...

I'm not sure what's happening on the inside of my chicken but she is not a string dispenser yet. She ate LOTS of greasy brown rice and pooped normal-ish poo a couple times. There hasn't been any string in the poo. Maybe it was completely digested? I've seen dogs eat string and it's always come out the other end. The other thing that worried me is her face which was normally ashen (a fault in moderns) turned bright red last night. I think her fever must have been very high. I gave her a tiny bit of baby aspirin to try to bring it down.

This morning the poo looked like undigested rice since I guess there is no more grit in her crop. I was going to keep her off grit to help her guts heal but it seems like guts are made to take grit in order to digest.

What do you folks think? Is the string still in her even though the rice is moving through? Should she get grit?

On the upside she's in a very chatty mood today and must feel a lot better. I was thinking I'd come home to find her dead last night.

Thanks for the support!
